Micky van de Ven found the net twice as Spurs extended their winning streak on the road in the Premier League and delivered the Toffees their initial loss at their new home.

The Toffees were undefeated in their last five matches at their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left their historic home behind after more than a century at the end of last season.

But Tottenham's leader the Dutchman pounced on two occasions from set-pieces in the opening 45 minutes to place their strong form at risk, and they were unable to turn it around before the midfielder - assisted by ex-Everton forward Richarlison - nodded in a third to seal the victory.

The Everton defender believed he had equalized the scores five minutes after the defender's opener, directing a bullet header past Guglielmo Vicario from an Everton corner.

Beto, in the meantime, missed a handful of opportunities, while the Italian goalkeeper made a succession of excellent stops to ensure the London club went five away games without defeat in the English top flight.

But the VAR stepped in, advising Craig Pawson to check the score on the screen and the official ruled that Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye were in an illegal position and had impeded with the Spurs keeper.

The win moves Thomas Frank's team into third place in the division, a handful of points off local foes and table-toppers the Gunners.

Everton stay 14th and sit six points ahead of the drop zone.

Tottenham analysis: Van de Ven fulfils role at each end of pitch

After a uninspiring weekday performance in the European competition against the French side, where they mustered a only two shots on goal, Frank chose the French striker in attack instead of ex-Everton forward Richarlison.

The summer signing was failed to make much of an impact before being substituted for the substitute after 60 minutes on the field, but it turns out he wasn't needed in the end.

Centre-back Van de Ven transformed into an attacking force to be feared.

Spurs' first goal came from a well-worked set-piece play, with Rodrigo Bentancur directing the ball back across the six-yard box for an unmarked the defender to score.

And the captain - filling in as captain in the Argentine's absence - added his next goal in first-half stoppage time as he outjumped the England keeper to nod in.

The Dutchman was equally impressive in defence, combining effectively with his defensive colleague as the pair handled excellently with the numerous deliveries thrown their way by Everton.

Everton analysis: Toffees lacking finishing touch

Everton's new home had been a fortress, but it seems the freshness may have faded somewhat and fans headed to the gates after Sarr's third for Tottenham.

The end in Everton's winning streak at home won't be a massive concern for David Moyes, but their striker situation are.

The forward and Thierno Barry - the Toffees' pair of recognised strikers - had scored only a single goal between them before Sunday's match.

And they were unable to add to that poor tally on a damp and dreary evening on in Liverpool.

The striker's form was epitomized when he chose to bicycle-kick a clear chance from near the goal, despite having space and opportunity to readjust for a simpler attempt that would have tested Vicario.

The substitute, as well, was unable to make an impact after coming on for Beto in the 65th minute.

It wasn't for a lack of chance. Most of the home side's offensive moves came through the winger and the forward, who tirelessly whipped threatening balls into the Tottenham penalty area.
